German driver license Categories

German Driver License Categories

  • Two-stage driving license for motorcycles
The former Categories 1a and 1 have been subsumed into the new Category A. However, this is still a two-stage license. Any person who first obtains a driver license in a less powerful vehicle category is granted easier access to the next higher driver license category (example: any person who first gains two years of experience in Category A1 – light motorcycles not exceeding 11 kW – only has to pass a practical test, but not a theory test, to obtain a Category A2 license – motorcycles up to 35 kW. This creates an incentive to first gain experience operating less powerful two-wheel vehicles.

German Categories Explained

  • Dividing line between the passenger car and heavy goods vehicle categories
The dividing line between the passenger car category (3/B) and the heavy goods vehicle category (2/C) has been lowered from 7,500 kg to 3,500 kg maximum authorized mass. Anyone wishing to drive vehicles between 3,500 and 7,500 kg has to obtain at least a Category C1 driver license . Holders of Category 3 drivers licenses are covered by rules designed to protect their acquired rights (see “grandfathering”).
  • Trailer driver license

Drivers wishing to tow a trailer with a maximum authorized mass of over 750 kg but not more than 3,500 kg require a separate trailer driver license , Category E. There is an exception in Category B, which is significant primarily for caravan and horse box owners: A driver license of this category will also suffice for trailers with a maximum authorized mass greater than 750 kg if the maximum authorized mass of the combination does not exceed 3,500 kg. What is more, on 19 January 2013, a new Category B driver license with code 96 was introduced, which is primarily of interest for operating smaller motor vehicle/caravan combinations. It can be issued for vehicle combinations formed from a motor vehicle of Category B and a trailer with a maximum authorized mass exceeding 750 kg if the maximum authorized mass of the vehicle combination is over 3,500 kg but not more than 4,250 kg. Code 96 may only be assigned if the applicant already holds Category B DL or has fulfilled the licensing requirements for this category. In order for code 96 to be entered into the Category B driver license, only a driver training, but no test, is required.

  • Two-stage driver license in category T

The minimum age for Category T is 16 years. Drivers under the age of 18 may only drive tractor vehicles up to 40 km/h (with trailer)

Word of Advise to Americans And Others Wishing to Drive in UK

Published by:

Driving in the UK

Driving in the UK

This is our advice to Americans who are considering driving themselves around the UK. Differences in driving between the two countries are more than just the “side” of the road that is driven on. These tips were culled from two experiences we had, renting once in Newbury and once in York.

If you’re not a confident manual (stick-shift) driver, forget it. Driving on unfamiliar roads with unfamiliar rules is not the time to learn.

Rent the smallest car that fits your needs. A Vauxhall Astra was plenty large enough for 2 adults, 2 teens, and luggage.

Drive in Britain With Ease

The “side” you drive on is the smallest difference between the two countries. In the US, right turns are easy. In the UK, left turns are your friend. Be careful and give way (yield) when turning right!

Contact Us To Get DVLA Registered Uk Drivers License Without Driving Test

way (yield), passing, etc. Research the meaning of the large spider web type signs shown as you approach roundabouts. Find out what it means when something is inside ( ). Learn what A and B roads are. Research the speed limit rules and signs.

Research roundabouts, how they work, and what other drivers expect. (The occasional one-lane roundabout at a shopping mall in the US is not sufficient preparation.) There are videos on YouTube and other ‘net resources.

Using Google street view, research some of the roads you intend to drive. Notice how the cars are parked, the width of the road and the curves. There may be walls and hedges very close to the road. Notice that the road may have no shoulders . Note that directional signs are often located at the exact point of turning, rather than several hundred feet in advance. The width and curviness of the British roads was a bit unnerving for us. Note this if you have intentions of Driving in the UK

Driving With GPS UK

GPS (sat nav) is a wonderful tool but a map makes it easier to plan your route. You can buy a great AA atlas at many bookstores. Try to plan your route using A and B roads as much as possible. The “white” roads on your map are likely narrow, curvy roads that are best left to the locals who are familiar with them. The sections of motorway we drove on (A6 near Carlisle and A1(M) near Newcastle) were very similar to US freeways with wide lanes and gentle curves.

As you plan your route, make note of the numbers of the roads you’ll be traveling (i.e. A59, B6265)–this is much easier than trying to determine whether you need the road to Towne or Upper Towne (which may be in opposite directions). Having at least two people, one to drive and one to navigate and provide lookout is a great help.

Once you’ve arrived at the car rental place, turn on your GPS to allow it to “find” itself. Before setting off, make sure the GPS has a really good position fix. If not, given the arrangement of roads in the UK, the GPS may think you are not where you actually are. (This happened to us outside the York railway station.) Ask the rental employee for specific directions to where you return the car and the two nearest petrol stations.

Get familiar  With The Roads

Before setting off, take several minutes to become familiar with the controls, particularly the headlights and wipers. Determine whether the car has an Eco anti-idling feature. Ours did and we turned it off just to eliminate another unknown. Figure out how to place the car in reverse. Figure out how to locate 1st and 2nd gears quickly (for roundabouts), without going into reverse. (In one car we drove, reverse was a great distance to the left of 1st. In the other, you entered reverse by first pressing down on the shifter and then moving to the left of 1st.)

Knowing all this greatly eased our driving experience and allowed the driver to relax (partially) and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Hopefully it will help others.

uk drivers license categories explained

Standard UK drivers license categories

Category AM

This classification means you can drive two- or three-wheeled motors with a maximum design speed between 15.5mph and 28mph. But, you’ll need to pass a compulsory basic training test (CBT) as well.

This classification also includes quad bikes that have a maximum design speed of between 15.5mph and 28mph, weighing no more than 350kg (doesn’t include batteries on electric vehicles).

Category B

To drive any car, Category B is the classification you’ll need; you can drive vehicles up to 3,500kg Maximum Authorised Mass, with up to eight passenger seats.

If you’re over 21, Category B also means you can drive motor tricycles that have a power output higher than 15kW; you also get provisional entitlement to ride category motor tricycles that meet Cat A1 or A requirements (and if you’re physically disabled).

Category F

If your licence has category F on it – all standard ones do – you can drive an agricultural tractor. That’s right, you can hop behind the wheel of a tractor with no restrictions!

Category K

This drivers license category means you can get behind the wheel of a pedestrian-controlled vehicle; in other words, any self-propelled device you walk behind to control. For example, a mowing machine.

Category Q

With category Q, you can drive a two-wheeled vehicle with an engine size of no more than 50cc,and have a maximum design speed of no more than 15.5mph.

License categories you might have

Category B1

If you spot the drivers license category B1, you can drive motor vehicles with four wheels up to 400kg unladen or 550kg if they are designed for carrying goods – this is more common on older drivers license.

Category B+E

If you passed your test before January 1, 1997, you’ll be able to drive a vehicle with a trailer over the usual combined limit of 3,500kg- up to 8,250kg. If you passed your test after this date, you’ll have to take an additional test to tow weights over 3,500kg.

Category B auto

Used instead of a Category B license, this means you are limited to driving automatic cars only and are not allowed to drive a manual car.

Category P

This is an old category that still lingers on some people’s licenses. It refers to two-wheeled vehicles with a maximum design speed of no more than 31mph and an engine size lower than 50cc. On recent licenses, this category is merged with Category AM.

Categories you need to complete an additional test for

Category A

With a catgory A, you can drive motorbikes with a power output more than 35kW or a power to weight ratio more than 0.2kW/kg.

Category A1
With a category A1, you can drive light motorbikes with an engine size up to 125cc, a power output of up to 11kW and a power to weight ratio not more than 0.1kW/kg. This category also includes motor tricycles with power output up to 15kW.

Category AM

This driving licence category means you can drive two or three wheeled motors with a maximum design speed between 15.5mph and 28mph. But, you’ll need to pass a compulsory basic training test (CBT) as well.

This classification also includes quad bikes that have a maximum design speed of between 15.5mph and 28mph, weighing no more than 350kg (doesn’t include batteries on electric vehicles).

<Category C1

After passing the appropriate test, you’ll be entitled to drive vehicles weighing between 3,500kg and 7,500kg (with a trailer up to 750kg).

Category C1+E

This driving licence category gives you trailer entitlement to Category C1, meaning you can tow a trailer weighing over 750kg. The catch? The combined weight of both the vehicle and the trailer cannot exceed 12,00kg and the trailer cannot weigh more than the towing vehicle either.

Category C

To get this driving licence category, you’ll need to complete atest to drive vehicles weighing more than 3,500kg (with a trailer up to 750kg).

Category C+E

Cat C+E gives you trailer entitlement to Category C, meaning you can tow a trailer weighing over 750kg.

Category D1

With the D1 driving licence category, you can drive a minibus with no more than 16 passenger seats and a maximum length of 8 metres, once you’ve passed the relevant test. You’ll also be able to tow a trailer up to a maximum weight of 750kg.

+Category D1+E

With this classification you can drive D1 category vehicles with a trailer over 750kg – provided the combined weight of the trailer and vehicle do not exceed 12,000kg.

-Category D

The Category D code means you can drive any bus with more than 8 passenger seats (with a trailer up to 750kg).

Category D+E

-Category D+E lets you tow a trailer over 750kg on a Category D vehicle.

Category G

If you fancy it, the G driving licence category gives you entitlement to drive a road roller.

Category H

With Category H, you can drive tracked vehicles- and yes, this includes tanks.

You don’t need a drivers license for electric bikes, mobility scooters or powered wheelchairs.

Along with categories covering what vehicles you can drive, your driving license codes add a wealth of other information about you – the holder. Here’s what you need to know.

Why are drivers license codes different to categories?

Drivers license categories dictate the types of vehicles that an individual can drive, whereas drivers license codes tell you what conditions actually apply.

How do I check my drivers license codes?

You can find the drivers license codes that relate to your license by looking under section 12 on the reverse of your drivers license. Ignoring codes can result in big fines, so it’s essential to take note of any restrictions on your license and comply.

Counterfeit Document (COVID-19) Consumer Resource Guide

Published by:

We are currently facing a worldwide pandemic, meaning a widespread disease outbreak, of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus, or COVID-19 for short. This virus is rapidly spreading to countries throughout the world, with devastating impacts. While technology and online businesses are an excellent resource for consumers right now, unfortunately some companies are capitalizing on the widespread fear and panic that surrounds this outbreak. To protect you as a consumer during this unprecedented time, we are providing this guide with reliable resources to help you take precautionary measures and put your mind at ease.

This time of uncertainty and alarm has brought out both the best and worst in businesses. While some aim to help with donations and discounts, others offer false information and scams to make more money. As a leading platform of authentic consumer resources, we are providing this consumer-centric guide with businesses for users to turn to for medical information, protective gear, stay-at-home alternatives, and more.

If you think you have been exposed to COVID-19, call your healthcare provider for medical advice, especially if you develop a fever and symptoms, such as cough or difficulty breathing.

Medical Information

In the age of technology, we have almost too much information at our fingertips. This has resulted in mass panic, rumors, and inaccurate information, which is dangerous during a pandemic. Make sure you are listening to news directly from reliable sources, not things shared on social media or by word-of-mouth.

The CDC should be your go-to resource for anything COVID-19 related. On their website, hot topics such as advice on travel, schools, childcare, businesses, employers, and community-based programs can be found. The CDC provides updates throughout the day, with any breaking news, updated restrictions, and general advice for the public.

The best online resources for up-to-date news about COVID-19:

  • CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention)

Other federal, state, and local government resources:

  • FDA (U.S. Food & Drug Administration)
  • HHS (U.S. Department of Health & Human Services)

While the CDC has not reported virus transmission due to package handling, best practice suggestions include wiping down packages with disinfectants, or leaving them outside for 24 hours.

Face Masks and Respirators

Face Mask and Respirators

If you are sick, the CDC recommends that you wear a mask because the virus is easily spread through droplets when you cough or sneeze, and the mask helps to stop the spread of those droplets. Beginning Friday, April 3, the CDC announced a recommendation for everyone else to wear face coverings in public as well, which could help with the asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic spread of the virus.

3M, a major supplier of face masks and respirators, including the N95’s needed by healthcare professionals, announced that demand is exceeding supply and they are working hard to provide customers with the supplies they need.

Doctors are weighing in as well. Dr. Nipunie Rajapakse, a Mayo Clinic infectious diseases specialist, says that “the current recommendations regarding masks are that if you yourself are sick with fever and cough, you can wear a surgical mask to prevent transmission to other people. If you are healthy, there is not thought to be any additional benefit to wearing a mask yourself because the mask is not airtight and does not necessarily prevent breathing in of these viral particles, which are very tiny.”

Purchasing the Correct Type of Mask or Respirator

First, let’s talk about the difference between a mask and a respirator. According to 3M, a face mask helps keep things sterile, protecting patients from inhaling microorganisms from the healthcare provider. These are more commonly seen and less expensive. A respirator looks a lot like a face mask but is designed to seal around the face, reducing the wearer’s exposure to airborne particles. Many people have been rushing to purchase N95 respirators in the wake of COVID-19, causing a global shortage for healthcare workers. For more in-depth information and frequently asked questions about masks and respirators, please refer to 3M’s guide.

If you find that you need a mask or respirator, purchase one that is approved by the CDC so that you aren’t doing more harm than good. When masks fit incorrectly, you and the people around you are not protected. The CDC has a guide for all approved respirator types.

Where to Purchase a Mask or Respirator

Face masks and respirators have been sold out for weeks. Thankfully, there are a few ways to get your hands on one if you are sick or know someone who is, but beware of price gouging. Some retailers are taking advantage of consumers by selling these products by setting them at unfair and unreasonable prices. If you find that a local store is price gouging, report it to your state’s Attorney General Office.

The following chain retailers typically carry one or more kinds of masks and respirators. It’s worth checking in with these stores online and signing up for alerts (when available) for new shipments if you’re in serious need of one.

We know there is a shortage of these products, and some are desperate for a mask, but try to purchase from a reliable retailer so that you aren’t scammed out of money, or buying a faulty product. 3M, a major global supplier of masks and respirators, offers links to partner stores online to purchase from. You can also type in your zip code and to show nearby stores that typically have stock of these products. Call for availability BEFORE heading to the store.

Other CDC Trusted Retailers

Along with 3M, there are other trusted retailers on the CDC’s website. Go to the CDC’s website, find the kind of mask that you need (in the blue box), click the link, and search through retailers. Note that most of these retailers sell to other distributors or major companies, not private citizens.

Air Purifiers

Air Purifiers

We know that COVID-19 spreads through close contact with an infected individual. According to the CDC, the virus can be contracted through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes, and then a healthy person inhales it. Due to the risk of infection, more and more people are purchasing air purifiers in an attempt to clean the air around them, especially if someone else in their home or business is infected.

Air purifiers can trap or break down (depending on the type of filter) viruses, bacteria, mold, mildew, and fungi. However, not all of these products are effective, and some make false claims. There are different types of air filters, including UV, mechanical, and electrostatic, and all have been proven to remove some viruses and bacteria. However, air purifiers haven’t been tested against COVID-19, so there is no guarantee yet. But, if you want to breathe clean air and lower your risk of being infected from other viruses, choose a reputable company to purchase from.

Where to Purchase an Air Purifier

For those of us who want to feel a little better about the air we breathe during this COVID-19 outbreak (or anytime), check out these reliable air purifier retailers.

Emergency Kits

Emergency Kits

The CDC is recommending keeping an emergency kit on hand during this outbreak, for symptoms related to COVID-19, but also for other common illnesses you might contract or minor accidents that might occur during this time. This will help you treat your problem quickly and efficiently without having to run to the store.

Remember to pack only the necessities in your kit. Some companies try to scam consumers, using fear to convince them to purchase their products, even if they don’t actually need them. For trustworthy information on what you should have in your basic emergency kit, use the lists and recommendations from, FEMA, or the American Red Cross.

Where to Purchase an Emergency Kit

American Red Cross Go to Sitejabber's review page

Along with their list of recommendations for emergency kits, the American Red Cross offers a variety of emergency products for sale. Purchase full survival or emergency kits, first aid kits, and individual emergency products for your home, office, and car. These kits are appropriate for any type of emergency, including natural disasters or other instances where you cannot get the assistance you might need.

  • Purchase straight from the source
  • No price gouging

We know that COVID-19 particles are passed through the air and can remain on surfaces long enough to infect others, so keeping cars, homes, and personal devices clean is on everyone’s mind. Using disinfectants is an obvious choice during this viral outbreak. The CDC recommends cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces daily.

Many stores are out of disinfecting products, especially wipes and hand sanitizers, forcing you to shop online. Before you order, do some quick research about EPA approved disinfectants so that you and your family can stay protected by using products that effectively remove the virus from your surfaces. Use the chart to find the EPA registration number for the ingredient, which will then be listed on the product. Products can be marketed and sold under different brand names while still using the same EPA registration number, so look at other brands if the product you need is sold out. If you can’t find any of these, disinfecting products with at least 70% alcohol are also appropriate to use.

Home Diagnostics

Home Diagnostics

Those who become ill are being asked to call ahead before going to a medical facility to avoid transmitting the disease further. For many mild cases, at-home monitoring is sufficient. This has led many to realize that they need or want additional at-home diagnostic supplies to make sure their families (and themselves) are safe and healthy. Among the most popular tools are pulse oximeters (measures blood oxygen concentration), thermometers, and heart monitors. These tools can also bring people peace of mind during this stressful time. Always check with your own physician on whether you need these types of medical diagnostic equipment. Avoid price gouging and faulty products by shopping at reputable retailers during this outbreak.

When practicing home isolation, if you have COVID-19, it is important to wait the recommended amount of time before you leave your home again to avoid infecting others. Please read the CDC’s “How to Discontinue Home Isolation” section near the bottom of the linked webpage for more information.

With thermometers flying off the shelves, you’re probably wondering where to look when chain retailers run out. Allheart still has a variety of thermometers and pulse oximeters in stock, and some are even on sale. Also available are disposable protective gear, such as gloves, that are helping some people protect themselves while taking care of sick family members. It is important to remember to purchase only what you need. There is a shortage of these products for medical professionals, too, not just for consumers.

  • Trustworthy site for thermometers, pulse oximeters, and other at-home supplies

COVID-19 Social Distancing Alternatives

Social distancing is crucial during the COVID-19 outbreak. While we can’t attend our normal social activities, a more pressing matter is how to get necessary services while being isolated. Fortunately, online medical appointments, pharmacies, business meeting platforms, and food delivery services are available for us to use.

Online Medical Appointments

Online Medical Appointments

The CDC is urging people who are mildly ill to stay home rather than rush to a medical facility. To help aid those who need to consult a doctor, online medical appointments are available. Be sure to sign up for a reliable service, and check with your health insurance provider to see what is covered. Along with physical health, mental health appointments are available from some providers for those who need it during this stressful time. Ultimately, your decision on which site to use will most likely come down to the price and your insurance coverage, as most of these services are the same.
